FocusMaxing Tool

Time Logging: Feed Your Zones

Use focused work sessions to feed your Zones overview and prove you are moving forward.

Category:Focus & Time Tracking
Best for:People who struggle to sustain focus, or who need concrete proof of their daily effort.

In ShortWhat is it?

FocusMaxing offers three ways to turn your effort into data: A Quick Timer for open-ended tracking, a classic Pomodoro Timer for structured focus, and Manual Logging for when you forget to start a timer. Every minute tracked feeds directly into your Zones, building your momentum.

Common Use Cases: When to use this tool

  • Pomodoro for Resistance:When a task feels too painful to start, committing to just a 25-minute Pomodoro cycle lowers the barrier to entry.
  • Open-Ended Flow:When you are 'in the zone' and just want to track how long a deep-work session lasts without being interrupted.
  • Retroactive Credit:You just finished cleaning the house or reading a textbook, and want to make sure that effort counts towards your weekly goal.

How to track your time in FocusMaxing

1

Choose your method: If you need strict structure, use the Pomodoro timer. If you just want to track an open session, use the Quick Timer.

2

Select your Zone: Always attach your timer to one of your pre-defined Zones (e.g., 'Deep Work' or 'Study').

3

Do the work: Focus on the task at hand. The timer runs in the background while you work outside the app.

4

Save to My Zones: When you stop the timer, the time is automatically injected into today's cell on the Zones overview.

5

Manual Backfill: If you worked for 2 hours and forgot the timer, just tap a cell in My Zones and add the time manually.

The Psychology: Why logging time builds momentum

The act of starting a timer is a psychological 'commitment device'. It creates a boundary between 'resting' and 'working'. More importantly, when the session ends and the time is logged to My Zones, it provides an immediate dopamine hit. This closes the feedback loop. The brain learns that effort leads to a visible reward (filling My Zones), which makes it easier to start the next session.
